Colonel Abo Omar, is an Officer from Saddam's Army who escaped from Iraq leaving his wife
and six young children behind when they started killing military officers.
Abo is a Sunni married to a Shiite and talks about how the sectarian divide
has destroyed his family.
The Dejaley Family live in a one-room shack on a farm near Hispan.
The father, Hedar, left Iraq before the war, because he could not
earn a living in the town of Kabola located in the no-fly zone. With
the help of his brothers, Hedar was able to smuggle his wife Saham,
his 14 year old son Ali and 12 year old daughter Dynah out of the
country. Their struggle continues; because they are refugees, Ali
and Dynah are not allowed to go to a public school and the family
can no longer pay to send their children to private school.
Hassan Samak, was once a successful accountant at the Alrafdan Bank in Baghdad.
He left Iraq after it was bombed; barely escaping with his life. To make money,
Hassan performs as a street magician in coffee shops and at parties.
