The Pre-Production is the most important part of the production process. It involves the planning needed to ensure that the concepts, ideas and messages will be effectively created within a specified budget and time schedule. It is where the concept is developed a strategy (treatment) of concept is designed, program formats are detailed and a script is written. A roster of camera shots and a determination of the number and type of cameras used in the production are also developed to accompany the script. Plans for computer graphics, animation, voice-over, b-roll are also considered. The process is finalized with the creation of storyboards that are reviewed by focus groups and experts to ensure the authenticity and relevance of the program. The pre-production phase is also where the technical and creative personnel are selected, the talent and casting is handled and equipment is ordered. Shooting locations are scouted, and dates and schedules are confirmed with talent and crew.
